Homeschool Basic Program: The basic program is a 5-6 hour program that takes place on one day. The first 2/3 of the program covers an introduction to evidence and collection techniques. We look at a range of evidence types and use real crime scene investigation materials to collect evidence. The final 1/3 of the program is a mock crime scene in which the kids collect evidence, question suspects, and solve the crime.
Homeschool Science Experiment Program: This program starts with the Scientific Method and moves into designing experiments and demonstrations of scientific concepts. The kids will use a stream table, a shake table, microscopes, tree cores, and other items to examine a variety of scientific processes, such as erosion, earthquakes, the effects of pollution. Projects that can be replicated at home are shown so that kids can gear up for exciting science study after the program ends. The kids will also be invited to do their own mini-experiments as part of data collection efforts in forensic science experiments that I am conducting, with results being posted on this website.
Library Programs: I offer a variety of programs for libraries, ranging from one hour sessions covering one type of evidence to all-day programs. The library can decide if the program will be age-restricted (i.e. an adult program, a teen program or a younger program) or open to everyone. All programs involve hands-on activities, but the number of activities will be determined by the time allotted for the program and the group size.
School Programs: I work with schools to provide forensic science programs for their students in a variety of ways. I can schedule entire days where I go to a school or multiple schools in a district and do a series of programs for multiple classes/grades. This type of program is charged on a daily rate, but there are discounts for multiple days, even if two adjoining districts schedule consecutive days. I can also do summer workshops for science teachers in a district to train them to add forensic science activities into their curricula.
Visually Impaired Programs: I am very excited about my programs for visually impaired students. I tailor the program to the needs of the group, and add elements that are truly unique. We cover the use of sounds and smells in crime scene investigation and use a lot of hands-on activities the allow the students to take advantage of their enhanced tactile abilities. I use enlarged models of fingerprints made with silicone so that the students can learn how to distinguish between the types of prints.
Adult Programs: Adult programs are great for adults who are simply interested in the subject (maybe as a fan of a television show or reading mysteries) or those who wish to write mysteries and need to gain more insight in evidence collection. I tailor the content of these courses to the pre-program comments that I receive from enrollees. I am also excited about another new twist for adult programs involving Forensic History. We will look at historical cases and try to see what the evidence tells us.
